Summary: great idea but...
Comment: I really had great hopes for this unit since I have poor reception in my house. It simply did not work for me -- I got the same signal strength with or without the unit on.

It's going back to Amazon and I would like to note that I am pleased with their very prompt attention to my request to return the product.

Comment: I figured I was taking a gamble buying this when I read the reviews, and it turns out it didn't do anything to improve my reception over something else I did the same day I bought this online (unfortunately AFTER I already bought it): If you have Verizon, every so often you're supposed to update your phone by dialing *228, then choosing option 2 (you chose option 1 when you first got your phone, to program it). This updates the phone to any changes Verizon has made, like new towers, or whatever else they do to improve reception. I hadn't done it in a year, although I think they advise doing it monthly, and voila!, I could actually make and receive calls from inside my apartment again! Once I got the wireless extender in the mail, I didn't get any further improvement, and the phone is working well enough now that I don't feel the need to upgrade to the more expensive extender.

Summary: Great, on the rare occasions it works...
Comment: This booster works really great on the rare occasions it actually works at all. It has a red light which is supposed to indicate that the antenna is too close to the box. I have the antenna as far away from the box as the wire permits, and when I turn the box on, the light shows green and the device works great... for about 15 minutes or so. Then the red light comes on for no apparent reason, and the device has to be unplugged and plugged in again to make it work again. So, this makes it pretty useless, because unless I just happened to plug the device in minutes before someone calls me, it won't be working.

Summary: Do not buy YX300
Comment: Do not waste your time or money on this product.

I purchased the YX-300, hoping that it would boost the 1-2 bars that I received with my Verizon phone and Sprint 3G card a few bars. After installing it according to the instructions and getting a green light on the unit, I brought the phone within range. Nothing. Absolutely no increase in signal. I unplugged the power to see if there was any movement on my signal meter--there wasn't. I assumed that possibly the cell signal in my area was somehow not in the correct frequency range (info on the web suggested otherwise, but I wanted to give this product the benefit of the doubt). So, I got my laptop and Sprint card and put it through the same test. Again, absolutely no improvement in the signal. Next, I tried moving the antenna to a different location. In pulling the suction cups off the window, the cheap plastic that holds the cups to the antenna broke, leaving me with only one affixed cup. I hung the antenna on the outside of a second story window facing the cell phone tower and repeated the tests. Again, no improvement in the signal--no sign that anything was happening. Next move, call Wi-Ex. Left a voice mail message, and to their credit, I got a call back after a few hours. The tech asked me questions to ensure that I had installed it correctly, then tried to suggest that my glass windows were blocking the signal. However, he agreed that mounting the unit to the outside of the window and the fact that I was getting 2 bars inside the house without the unit killed that theory. He then told me to return it to the vendor. When I told him that the vendor wouldn't accept the unit once it is out of the clamshell and that I wanted Wi-Ex to stand behind its product and issue the refund, he told me they wouldn't. I have used repeaters for Wi-Fi signal and they work very well. This product, however, is simply smoke and mirrors. I hope this post saves a few folks from wasting their time and money as I did.

Summary: Big disappointment
Comment: When it worked it worked well. It did give me a boost in cell phone signal, but it didn't work often. If you can set it up correctly (not easy, especially with limited instructions) then you have to hope that it can hold on to the signal for more than a few minutes. It also doesn't like to be moved and you are likely to break the somewhat flimsy antenna. The one I ordered started flashing a red light and wouldn't work at all after about three days.
