Customer Rating: Summary: Not as I remembered Comment: The price was right. I have had the magazine subscription before and I know I will like it. I was disappointed that the membership subscription to the Smithsonian started when I placed the order (in November) but I didn't get the membership card and couldn't start enjoying the perks until January which means I'll only get to use it about 10 months.
Customer Rating: Summary: Smithsonian subscription Comment: I chose to go thru Amazon because it offered an excellent price for the subscription. It was really effortless. Great site.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic Magazine at a Great Price! Recommended! Comment: "Smithsonian" is a well produced magazine that covers a wide range of topics, including archeology, arts, science, wildlife, and much more. The writing is in the best of class for a monthly magazine and the photos are always top notch.
While not every article is of interest to me, there almost always is something worthwhile reading. Many of the articles are on timely subjects and on more than occasion it has proved useful with my kids homework. The pictures alone makes this a good resource for folks with school age children.
At the low subscription price, this is a real bargain! Highly recommended!
Customer Rating: Summary: smithsonian Comment: It will not arrive until the January issue. But I already know it is a good magazine.
Customer Rating: Summary: Smithsonian Magazine gives you an intelligent perspective on world topics. Comment: This subscription is my introduction to Smithsonian and it comes two months after I ordered it. I'd actually forgotten about ordering it!
For 12 issues of thought provoking articles at essentially $1 per issue, I think it's a good buy. The articles are well written and not something I'd just look up on Wikipedia. They make you think a bit broader in scope than during the course of an ordinary day, and I like that.
Pro's:
+Intelligently written articles on unusual topics
+$1 per issue at current Amazon rates.
+Photography is a good addition to the articles, but it doesn't overtake them.
Con's:
- Arrives two months after ordered.
- Lots and lots of advertisements. (The same or perhaps more numerous than the articles.)
Conclusion - Order this magazine if you don't mind waiting for a well written, inexpensive, mind-expanding read to arrive in your mailbox, but I'd skip it if you need a Christmas gift for THIS year.
