Customer Rating: Summary: Nostalgic Classic Comment: This is a must see movie at anytime of the year, but especially Christmas. It is entertaining and reminds me of when I was young and would get obsessed with a particular present each year. The sub plots are hilarious and the movie captures real life and, in some cases, does not sugar coat the pains of growing up.
Sadly, Darren McGavin past away in 2006. We lost a great actor and the quintessential "Old Man" as well.
May Christmas live in our hearts year round.
Customer Rating: Summary: Christmas Story -- perennial classic Comment: A Christmas Story (Ultimate Collector's Edition) I love this movie. I recently upgraded from this version to the newly released 25th anniversary box set. On a whole, I think this film is on the same level as Miracle on 34th Street.
I know that a marathon of this film appears annually on cable from Christmas Eve night to Christmas Day evening. Seeing the film this way is a cool way to get to know it.
I remember my Mom and I searched around our neighborhood for this title. We fortunately found one.
If you want just the movie and additional features on this double disc package, by all means buy it. On the other hand, if you want the full enchilada, bypass this version and purchase the Ultimate Box Set of this film instead. Both versions have the exact same disc content in common.
Customer Rating: Summary: Yeah, yeah, I know... Comment: ...I know that WTBS runs this movie for a full 24-hours over Christmas Day. Of course, you can record it off the air -- you can even Tivo it.
But guess what: the full *uninterrupted* movie is 100% worth having, if for no other reason than to encourage similar movies to be made.
Who says that Christmas Classics have not been made since the 1940s?
My favorite scene: Two little bullies have been terrifying the boys of the neighborhood, and suddenly (with appropriate provocation) Ralphie absolutely *BEATS THE SNOT* out of *both* of them, and especially the bigger bully. And then he cries when his mother stops the beatings. Then there's the aftermath of the "fight": but watch it for yourself.
Also, some catalog offers a "lamp" exactly like the *Grand Prize* lamp. Oughta get one myself...
Customer Rating: Summary: A Christmas Carol Comment: If you grew up in the 50's, you will relate to this movie. Life was definitely different back then.
Customer Rating: Summary: all time classic Comment: I have this movie on DVD and love it,so i bought it on blu-ray which only makes it more of an all time classic!
